After a decidedly un-classy giggling fit Meredith and I got into during Christmas mass this past year, our CYT mother wondered whether we had ever read Emily Post's Etiquette. Originally published in 1922, we didn't think it would still be in print, much less relevant to today's matters. What we found is that the manners bible has been completely re-written and is now in its 17th edition, updated to include both traditional and more contemporary etiquette concerns: table manners, hosting, raising respectful children, as well as cell phone courtesy, on-line dating, road rage, and what she calls "netiquette". There is even an entire website run by the Emily Post Institute that includes manners blogs and tips on everything from online friending to etiquette on the ski slopes. And yes, mom, it even includes guidelines for religious ceremonies.
